Every Ostrea ring starts as a pencil sketch on the bench. Once you have chosen a design, we carve it in hard jeweller’s wax so you can see the shape before any gold is cast.
Casting in recycled gold
The wax goes to a small Hatton Garden caster, who melts recycled 18ct gold into a mould made around it. The rough ring comes back to us dull and heavy, with a stub where the gold flowed in.
Shaping and setting
We saw off the stub, file the band to its final profile and solder any joins with a small torch. Stones are set by hand under a loupe. A single claw setting can take an afternoon.
Finishing
The last step is polishing. We work through finer and finer compounds until the gold has a deep, soft shine, then clean the ring and check it against your size one more time.
